Access to Healthcare Services

It's important for you to be able to get services when you need them. That’s why we have set up the following standards for access to care for primary care physicians (PCPs) and behavioral health practitioners.

Medical Access Standards

Preventive care

within one month of request

Urgent care

same day of request

Emergency care

immediate

After-hours care

24-hour answering service or pager and response within 30 minutes from PCP or covering physician.

Behavioral Health Access Standards

Routine office visit

Within 7 days of request

Urgent care

Patient referred for immediate treatment to the nearest hospital-based psychiatric emergency service (PES) crisis team.

Emergency care

After-hours care

24-hour answering service or pager and response within 30 minutes from PCP or covering physician.

Every year, we monitor our network to see if our providers meet these standards.

Here are some tips that may be helpful when making an appointment:

  • When you select a PCP, make sure you know the office hours and how to reach the physician when the office is closed.
  • If you need to make a medical appointment, the office will try to accommodate you within the limitations of their appointment availability. Be flexible when you can.
  • If you have problems with scheduling an appointment that you cannot resolve, please call our Member Services department to let them know.
