Scope of Services for Uncomplicated
Obstetric Care
Global obstetric care comprises services normally provided in uncomplicated
obstetric care. These include antepartum care, intrapartum care, and
postpartum care.
- Antepartum Care
- First prenatal visit with initial history and physical examination.
- Generally, a woman with an uncomplicated pregnancy is examined every 4 weeks for the first 28 weeks of gestation, every 2 weeks until 36 weeks of gestation, and weekly thereafter. The frequency of follow-up visits is determined by the individual needs of the woman and the assessment of her risk.
- Intrapartum Care
- Supervision of uncomplicated labor
- Uncomplicated vaginal delivery (with or without episiotomy,
and/or forceps/vacuum delivery)
- Postpartum Care
- Hospital visits
- Office (office, routine, uncomplicated visits)
