Each year, HNE collaborates with the Massachusetts Health Quality Partners (MHQP) to publish preventive care guidelines for both adults and children. HNE then provides these guidelines to you. The 2005 Recommendations have been published and were reviewed and approved by HNE’s Chief Medical Officer and the HNE Clinical Care Assessment Committee. The 2005 Recommendations include important changes to the 2004 Guidelines. These changes are listed below.
2005 Recommended Changes for Adults:
- Yearly health maintenance visit beginning at age 50. The previous recommendation was every 1-3 years.
- Type 2 diabetes screen every 3 years beginning at age 45, or more often beginning at a younger age for those who are overweight and if risk factors are present. The language in italics was added to the recommendation.
- NEW: Body mass index screen for overweight and eating disorders.
- Cholesterol screen if not previously tested, and every 5 years (or more often per physician). The language in italics was added to the recommendation.
2005 Recommended Changes for Children:
- NEW: Yearly Body Mass Index screen for overweight children beginning at age 1 year.
