HEDIS®, the performance measurement tool used by more than 90 percent of the nations health plans, includes more than 50 measures related to such important aspects of care and service as cancer screening, immunization rates, diabetes treatment, cardiovascular disease, member satisfaction, smoking cessation and other serious health issues.
HNE 1998 Results for
Effectiveness of Care Measures:
Results are compared to the 1998 national average of all health plans reporting HEDIS® data to Quality Compass®#.

HNE Results for Member Satisfaction Survey:
This survey determines members overall rating of their health plan, as well as several other important dimensions of health plan performance and is an important indicator of the quality of care and service the plan and its network practitioners provide. DSS Research, an NCQA-certified third-party vendor, collected all member experience data.

Overall Member Ratings
Members were asked to evaluate HNE, their health care received, their personal doctor and the specialist they most frequently visited by using any number from 0 to 10, with 0 being the lowest rating possible and 10, the best possible. The reported percentages include members who responded 8, 9 or 10.
Results are compared to the New England HEDIS® Coalition# system average.
Overall HNE member satisfaction with their personal doctor is significantly lower than the NEHC System Average. While the exact reason members responded this way is not known, the results of questions, seen in the chart below, may provide some insight.
HNE has reconvened the 1998 HEDIS® Improvement Task Force (comprised of physicians, representatives from provider offices, PHOs and HNE staff) to review the HEDIS® results, hypothesize as to reasons for the rates or identify barriers to improvement and develop strategies that will impact performance in the future. Information regarding these efforts will appear in upcoming editions of HealthScript.
